Concerts

National Open Youth Orchestra and BSO Resound at Lighthouse Poole

As part of our first-ever series of concerts, we played Lighthouse Poole with BSO Resound in June 2022. It felt amazing playing ‘What Fear We Then?’ by Alexander Campkin live, as well a new arrangement of ‘Time’ by Hans Zimmer amongst other pieces. We got a standing ovation!

Thank you to our partners Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra for allowing us to share this short clip.

Music Video

‘What Fear We Then?’ by Alexander Campkin – co-commissioned with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

We had a very short period of time before the pandemic hit, where musicians got to workshop Alexander’s initial ideas for the piece in rehearsal.

“It’s been amazing playing a piece that has only been composed in the past few years and having a living composer who could talk to us about his feelings behind the piece and not only give feedback, but also listen to our suggestions. One of the most rewarding aspects of NOYO is feeling like an active participant in the music that we play.” Jamie, NOYO saxophonist.

This is our very first music video. You can read more about the meaning of the title and how the video was created on our blog post – 26 NOYO members were recorded playing live. We hope you like it!

Rehearsals

Behind the scenes at a NOYO residential

Every year ahead of our concerts, we get together for a residential. We work hard on the music, but also have lots of fun! We hope you enjoy this clip of us rehearsing ‘Day One’ by Liam Taylor-West for our 2022 concerts.

We were delighted to have the visit of BSO Resound conductor James Rose in London.
